Why SCTC

Our Values

From one perspective all theological colleges look very much alike. Each seeks to train people for gospel ministry. They all have classes, lecturers, a library and students. On closer inspection it becomes clear that each college has its own emphasis and culture. We at SCTC have consciously chosen four values that we want to characterize us.

We chose to be:

Doctrinally Sound

The very idea of “doctrine” can alienate and even confuse people. Doctrine, however, is a simple concept that is Biblical at its very core. The Apostle Paul says, “Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers” (1 Tim 4:16). In this command Paul uses the term “doctrine” to mean teaching. He wants Timothy to keep a close watch on the content of his teaching, and equally important he wants Timothy to practice what he preaches. At SCTC we teach the “faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints” (Jude 1:3), and we work to make this word relevant to real life both with our teaching and with our practice. For more information about our doctrinal stance see “Our Doctrine”.

Grace Centred

One theologian says, “God’s grace is God’s goodness to those who deserve only punishment.”* At SCTC we agree with this definition, and we believe the proper response to God’s love towards sinful humanity is a life of loving God and others along with lives characterized by holiness.

Ministry Focused

Sunshine Coast Theological College is an academic institution with examinations, grades, research papers and many late nights getting assignments ready for the next day. However, we are not just focused upon the academics. We believe that the study and understanding of God’s word will lead us to share with other people what the Lord has done in our life.  Consequently, each of our courses of study has a practical theology and ministry component.

Cultural Engaged

At SCTC we recognize that God has created the whole world, and he is interested in all of life. Our courses are designed with these points in mind. We want to help you think through the issues of a Biblical worldview as it touches the nitty gritty of life.  How should I relate to my co-workers and neighbours? How do I apply the good news to being a mum or a physician?  You will find yourself challenged by our lecturers and courses to apply the lordship of Christ to the arts, literature, music, law, medicine and everyday issues such as work or recreation.
